The book depicts a multi-ethnic family and aims to demonstrate that individuality and community spirit don't have to be mutually exclusive. The family members all meet at the mosque, but their way of getting there is shaped by their personal preferences. It's about a shared goal, not each individual's own path. Furthermore, traditional gender roles are challenged when the mother rides her scooter to the mosque while the father prefers to take the bus.
